Hoptoberfest: Oktoberfest Opening Day Party

Charleston, the moment we've all been waiting for is here: Oktoberfest season, and we are kicking it off with an opening day party you won't want to miss.

Join us on Saturday, September 16, from 12 pm to 7 pm, as we tap the firkin at noon and embark on a day-long celebration full of German Beer, Live Music, Games, and Lederhosen.

Tap your feet to the vibrant Polka tunes brought to life by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra members. (Note: This isn't a Charleston Symphony Orchestra event, but a chance to enjoy their talented musicians in a relaxed and festive setting.)

This year, we're bringing back crowd favorites – the Beer Puppet Challenge and the intense Stein Hoist Competition, and introducing new games such as German Spelling Bee and Blindfolded Pretzel Toss. Get ready for a thrilling lineup of games that includes: 

Blindfolded Pretzel Toss (12:30 pm)--Gather a partner for this hilarious game where communication is key. One person will be blindfolded while the other must catch pretzels tossed by their teammate. The pair with the most successful catches wins $50 in house cash.

Prize: $50 house cash

Polka Musical Chairs (1:30 pm)--Dance and dash for a seat when the polka music stops.

Be the last one seated to claim your prize.

Max Participants: 10

Prize: $25 house cash

Oktoberfest Costume Contest (2:30 pm)--Strut your stuff in your best Oktoberfest attire. Whether it's lederhosen or a dirndl, make it memorable. Two winners will be chosen for best-dressed.

Prize: $100 house cash ($50 for top two best-dressed

Beer Puppet Challenge (3 pm)--Suit up and use strings to hold and control your pint of beer, and be the

fastest to take a sip successfully.  A protective poncho is provided for potential beer splashes.

Prize: $100 house cash

Stein Hoist Competition (4:15 pm)--Compete to see who can hold a full stein the longest. A $5 entry fee gets you into the competition, and you keep a vintage Hoptobertest stein as a memento.

Max Participants: 32.

Entry Fee: $5 (includes vintage Hoptoberfest stein)

Prize: $100 house cash

German Spelling Bee (5:30 pm)--Show off your linguistic skills in our German Spelling Bee.

Max Participants: 10

Prize: $50 house cash

Savor our specially crafted Oktoberfest beer in a limited edition custom stein that you'll treasure long after the fest. (Only 50 one-liter steins and 150 half-liter steins will be available for purchase. No reservations are accepted for the steins. They are available first come, first serve)
