About the Event
Charleston’s Oktoberfest season starts at Fam’s Brewing Co.
Hoptoberfest returns Saturday, September 19, from noon to 5 p.m. for its ninth year as the Lowcountry’s original Oktoberfest kickoff party.
At noon, brewers Justin and Thomas will tap the ceremonial firkin and pour the first Oktoberfest of the season. Then the patio takes over with house-brewed Oktoberfest, German-style food, limited-edition one-liter steins, costumes, games, and live polka music from Charleston Polka Kings from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Hoptoberfest has built a few traditions over the years, including the crowd-favorite Beer Puppet Challenge, where getting the beer to your mouth is much harder than it should be. This year’s games, prizes, and registration details are coming soon.
This is the Lowcountry’s official opening day for Oktoberfest season, and Hoptoberfest has been leading it for nine years.
Free to attend. Lederhosen and dirndls strongly encouraged.
